The Texans win Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Edmonton against Tampa Bay 4-1. Thanks to your second guard.

Never before has Joel Hanley scored a goal in the NHL. In the final first game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Dallas Stars defender needed only 340 seconds.

“I just picked a corner and shot as hard as I could,” said the happy 29-year-old, who had only made 46 NHL appearances for 3 teams in the last 5 seasons.

Chudobin under constant fire

The other scorers in the 4-1 win also came from the 2nd Star Guard: after Yanni Gourdes tied, defender Jamie Oleksiak and rookie Joel Kiviranta secured a 3-1 lead in the middle third. Jason Dickinson put the lid on shortly before the end.

Goalkeeper Anton Chudobin withstood the Florida favorite’s onslaught in the final third and saved 22 shots (35 total).
