The former head of the Thurgau Stadler train builder, Irma Stadler († 96), died after a short illness. This stems from an obituary published by Stadler Rail CEO Peter Spuhler (61).
Stadler was the wife of the founder of the Stadler Rail company, Ernst Stadler (1908 to 1981). She joined the Bussnang TG-based company in 1950 and took over the management of the group after the death of her husband.
“Someone had to take over the company”
She continued to run the company successfully until she retired in 1989. This made her one of the first women to run a technology company. She did not point to the post. “I don’t have much else to do, because someone had to take over the company,” he said about this step in an interview with the “Thurgauer Zeitung” in 2012.
In 1989 Stadler sold the company to his granddaughter’s husband, Peter Spuhler. This brought the company to the stock market last year. Since May he has been not only chairman of Stadler Rail, but also acting managing director after former CEO Thomas Ahlburg (50) disembarked due to strategic differences.
Until recently, Stadler kept returning to the company premises and following the development of the company. Today the company has 11,000 employees. (vnf)
