This is a first for Stadler Rail and its sponsor Peter Spuhler (61): For the first time, the railway manufacturer is able to deliver from Thurgau to Italy. 80 trams to the metropolis of Milan, in northern Italy. The order is worth 172.6 million Swiss francs, as Stadler announced.
The contract has a duration of six years. The first delivery will include 30 Tramlink vehicles. The 80 trams are designed for use in urban and land traffic. The ATM operating company is expanding the range of transport on the one hand and replacing older vehicles on the other.
Less noise when cornering
The 25 meter long three-part Tramlinks are made of stainless steel. The three bogies improve the smoothness of the trams in typical Milan curves with a very small radius. This significantly reduces noise pollution for passengers and residents, as Stadler continues.
Íñigo Parra, CEO of Stadler Valencia, where the trains are produced, says: “We are very proud that a cosmopolitan city like Milan, with a strong commitment to green and sustainable mobility, has chosen our innovative tram”.
