The canton of St. Gallen has a high crown number. The cantonal situation bulletin of November 6 shows: The positivity rate continues to rise, contact tracing has been fully used for a long time. On Monday, the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen announced that the intensive care units were practically full, all non-urgent interventions that require intensive care capacity will be dispensed with.
For the government to announce a toughening of the crown’s measures at Tuesday’s press conference would not have been unthinkable. However, after the press conference, it is clear that nothing will change for the St. Gallen company.
The government is looking for nurses
The government is trying to relieve hospitals, nursing homes, and nursing homes with a group of health workers. Nurses with free skills need to show up there to fill staff bottlenecks.
Also, the government would like to continue contact tracing despite much criticism and heavy workload. If a family member becomes infected, the entire family should be quarantined as soon as possible. The situation is different with less close contact persons. They don’t have to be quarantined, but they can go to work wearing a mask. “The risk of infection within the family is four to five times higher than anywhere else,” explains canton doctor Danuta Zemp.
Finally, information is provided on regulation for difficult living conditions; the legal basis for it is prepared. For small businesses and the self-employed, this means financial aid is within reach. But not for everyone: the head of the Department of Economics, Beat Tinner, says clearly: “Only companies that are viable and economically relevant should be supported.”
