Why Roger Köppel rushes against Greta Thunberg: climate youth don’t want to go to the SRF arena

The movement that occupied the Bundesplatz does not want to talk to the “climate deniers”. They come to SVP National Council and Weltwoche editor Roger Köppel as such. SRF has invited him.

On Friday evening, guests of the SRF Arena will discuss the topic of global warming. Sandro Brotz invited Hanna Fischer, spokesperson for the “Stand Up for Change” alliance, which was on the Bundesplatz from Monday to Wednesday, as a guest.

The President of the Greens, Balthasar Glättli, and the national advisor of the FDP, Beat Walti, were invited as additional guests. An invitation was also sent to the SVP National Council and Weltwoche editor Roger Köppel.

Now Climate Strike Switzerland writes on Twitter that “Stand Up for Change” will not enter the arena after all. The communications team unanimously decided not to accept the SRF-Arena invitation, “if climate denier Roger Köppel is also invited.” After several discussions with the arena team, the invitation was declined.

The reason for the rejection of the invitation is that Roger Köppel and his newspaper “Weltwoche” “are massively inciting the climate strikers, especially Greta Thunberg. “Get up for change” writes:

In addition, Köppel denies or relativizes “depending on the situation” the existence of a climate change caused by man. However, this scientific consensus should not be a problem.

The alliance of various environmental organizations also writes:

“Rise Up for Change also likes to talk to people who have different points of view. But these must clearly take place on a scientific basis. “

If this is not the case, the alliance considers that a conversation is not conducive to solving the climate crisis and public discourse.

Sandro Brotz regrets the decision to #RiseUpForChange on Twitter. The discussion will take place regardless of this, according to the moderator of “Arena”.

Bern has had turbulent days. How is the mood in the Bundeshaus? Mattea Meyer: Quite calm on our part. On the right side of the Council there are some who apparently have the feeling that the demise of Swiss democracy is imminent. Cédric Wermuth: We are in awe of how quickly the supposedly self-confident billionaires have rebelled here. Meyer: That is an artificial outrage. They are cloud firecrackers. It’s about distracting yourself from the content. Now also thank …
