On Saturday, October 17, 2020, shortly before 7:30 p.m., a delivery truck driver evaded police control and then fled to the center of Reinach. In his escape, he committed several serious violations of the Road Traffic Law and put other road users in danger. No one was injured. The police are looking for witnesses.

A Basel-Landschaft police patrol carried out a speed check yesterday at Reinach, on Birsigtalstrasse, in the direction of Therwil. The truck went from Reinach Zentrum to control and passed it. After the checkpoint he turned his vehicle, accelerated massively and tried to evade control.

The patrol chased out with blue lights and alternate horns on. The next route led down Birsigtalstrasse, Bruggstrasse, A18 to Aesch Nord, in the opposite direction on A18 to Reinach Süd back to Bruggstrasse. While trying to drive on the Hinterkirchweg roundabout, the delivery van collided with a decorative stone. Immediately afterwards, the two inmates left and fled in the direction of Reinach Dorf.

The two fugitives, two young men aged 15 and 16, were arrested shortly after on a bus in Reinach thanks to a tip from the BLT. Initial investigations revealed that the two alleged perpetrators had previously stolen a company’s delivery truck in Basel.

The Basel-Landschaft children’s lawyer, in cooperation with the police, has initiated the corresponding proceedings against the two.

During the escape, the driver of the delivery truck caused several serious traffic violations and endangered other road users.
