Following the withdrawal of the current district president, Elisabeth Ackermann (Greens), the cards will be reorganized for the second vote on 29 November. With Heidi Mück, a new candidate is entering the race for a position on the governing council. And with the current National Councilor Beat Jans, the SP is coming for the first time to the regional council, which has always been in the hands of the Greens since its inception. The party executive decided on Wednesday morning.
“Excellent electoral result”
With the decision, the party assumes the responsibility of representing the canton’s concerns to the outside world, the SP Basel-Stadt writes in its press release. Beat Jans is predestined for this role due to his excellent election results on Sunday and his long-standing work as a member of the National Council.
On Tuesday night, the SP had already nominated its second new candidate, Kaspar Sutter. Sutter had finished sixth in the first vote for the seven-member governing council, but had lost an absolute majority.
