SP Aargau takes note of the open letter from the bourgeois parties, in which they demand a quick opening of shops, with astonishment, according to a statement on Wednesday. The Aargau trade association, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the heads of the FDP, CVP and SVP had asked the governing council to reopen the stores as soon as possible. All measures must be taken equally, “whether they are wholesalers or SMEs.” Small shops felt disadvantaged.
On Sunday, the trade association expressed outrage at the new blockade in Aargau. He called for store closures to be reversed. The government then specified the rules and responded to the industry in a detailed statement on Monday.
No support but understanding of the request
In his letter, SP Aargau expressed his understanding for the displeasure of merchants who now have to close their stores. Already on Tuesday, Gabriela Suter said in the “Talk Daily”: “I understand every businessman who is now totally hateful for this decision.”
However, the SP cannot bear the demand for a quick reopening after Christmas. “The situation in the hospitals is so precarious that it would be irresponsible to think about alleviating the situation now,” says the president of the party, Gabriela Suter. Stronger measures are more likely to be implemented in neighboring cantons as well.
“Inaction without strategy” of the governing council
The Aargau government accuses the SP of lack of foresight. The “catastrophic situation” in Aargau is due to the “strategic inaction of the ruling council dominated by the bourgeoisie,” he says. For weeks one would have ignored calls for help from hospitals, accepted large numbers of cases, and dispensed with effective measures.
On “Talk Daily,” Gabriela Suter was particularly harsh with the health director Jean-Pierre Gallati (SVP): “Sometimes I had the feeling that the health director had never spoken to someone who worked in the hospital”. The fact that they did not want to see an emergency situation recently and are now suddenly changing is a “policy of change” and shows a “lack of leadership”.
Instead of a quick reopening of stores, the SP is now demanding financial compensation and lease exemptions. After the bourgeois parties rejected a partial resignation to the lease in the federal parliament and thus “disappointed the business”, a solution is now needed at the cantonal level for the businesses that had to close due to the closure. To this end, the SP wants to present a corresponding proposal at the next meeting of the Grand Council. (phh / wue / luk)
