The situation is worrying: instead of noticeably decreasing, the number of corona cases in the canton of Solothurn is stabilizing at a very high level, as the Solothurn State Chancellery writes in a press release. The number of unreported sick people is high with a positivity rate of 19.8%. At the same time, very few people are being tested for Covid-19. The reproduction number Re, which indicates how many people are infected on average by an infected person, is 1.2 and is therefore well above the national average.
Hospitals have been working at their limits for weeks, and although the number of intensive care beds has almost doubled, the situation is extremely fragile. Basic medical care is in grave danger.
The situation in nursing homes and old people’s homes is also extremely tense. There have been a growing number of major outbreaks in recent weeks. With regard to holidays, additional measures are urgently required.
The measures apply until the end of January at the latest
With this in mind, the governing council decided to toughen the measures. These are agreed with the neighboring cantons and are largely identical. They apply no later than January 31, 2021. However, if the current situation does not improve rapidly and noticeably, the governing council will act before Christmas and decide on further measures.
As of Friday, December 11, 2020, additional measures will apply:
- Restaurants: A maximum of 50 people can be present at the same time; Close between 9 pm and 6 am Exceptions Regarding the opening hours of: food delivery services, hotel catering establishments, company canteens.
- Bars will be closed.
- Sports facilities they are also closed. This applies in particular to gyms, indoor pools, dance studios, fitness and wellness centers, ice sports facilities and the interior of other sports facilities, including cloakrooms. Exception: Use of gymnasiums and indoor swimming pools, including changing rooms, for compulsory or voluntary school sports in elementary school, use of gyms without a cloakroom for alternative lessons at the upper secondary level, as well as professional training activities and competitions
- Casinos and game rooms will be closed.
- Interiors and leisure and entertainment facilitiessuch as bowling and billiards centers, as well as climbing halls will be closed. Exception: Museums, libraries, cinemas, concert halls, theaters.
- Events: There is a limit of 15 people. exception: On December 24, 25, 26 and 31, 2020 and on January 1, 6 and 7, 202021, religious services and events are allowed for up to 30 people in public access facilities and businesses.
Furthermore, as part of a general decree for residences for the elderly and for the elderly, a general prohibition of visits and outings is issued. This applies from Thursday December 10 to December 23 inclusive. With these measures, controlled visits and contacts should be possible again during the festive period. (sks)
