Small number of visitors, but the fair format is a milestone

For Olma Messen St. Gallen, the implementation of the new “Pätsch” trade fair format is a milestone, according to the statement. The foundations have been laid for the upcoming fairs and events.

(ps / ok) The decision in early June to cancel this year’s Olma edition was correct. In a press release on the “Pätsch” trade fair, which took place in St. Gallen on the last two weekends of October, the organizers look back and forth.

An experimental fair

With the implementation of the new “Pätch” trade fair format, it was shown that despite difficult conditions and low planning certainty, trade shows can also be held in crown times. The planning of “Pätch” made it possible for the fairs not to be considered classic events, but to be handled like markets or shopping centers.

With “Pätch” the organizers, together with more than 150 exhibitors, dared to make an experiment. Lack of planning security and ever-changing framework conditions shaped the preparations to the end, according to the announcement. Short-term decisions had to be made and the concept had to be continuously adapted; all partners involved had to act quickly.

The elders behaved with caution

The results of the two weekends are mixed: the average age was well below that of the classic fair public. Older people were remarkably cautious. The fair management attributes it, on the one hand, to the notable increase in the number of corona cases, on the other hand, to the online ticket purchase process.

The “Pätch” experiences strengthen the organizers in their intention, they write, to hold the upcoming trade shows and lay the foundations for them to take place safely even in the time of Corona. Doing nothing was never an option, so the following applies: learning and trying new things.
