A 31-year-old was swept away by a snow patch on Thursday in the La Combe Grède area near Villeret BE. Despite immediate rescue measures, he died.

According to initial findings, the man was accompanied by four other tourists on the descent when a slab of snow fell off. The man in front of the group was hit by the slab and buried. His companions managed to rescue him and alert Rega.

Despite resuscitation measures after rescue and during the flight to hospital, the man died, as announced on Friday by the Bern canton police and the Jura-Seeland regional prosecutor in Bern. The deceased is a 31-year-old Swiss resident in the canton of Neuchâtel.

Investigations have begun to determine the exact circumstances of the event.
