Ski resorts in canton Schwyz to open on January 2 – government wants to avoid “isolated solutions”
The ski areas in the canton of Schwyz can reopen from Saturday, January 2, ahead of schedule.
The Schwyz governing council decided to reopen the ski areas on January 2. Since virtually all ski areas in Central Switzerland and the surrounding cantons of Glarus and St. Gallen are open, the Schwyz governing council wants to “avoid an isolated solution”, as it puts it. With an isolated solution, in which only the ski areas in the canton of Schwyz remain closed, skiing would move to the surrounding cantons. The original plan was not to reopen the ski areas until January 8. This means that only the ski areas of the canton of Lucerne remain closed in Central Switzerland. This until at least January 8.
The opening of the ski areas in the canton of Schwyz will take place in consultation with the hospitals. In addition, the governing council has tightened the requirements for the issuance of the operating license. In addition to current protection concepts, capacity will be limited to two-thirds, alcohol will be banned in ski areas, and snow and amusement parks will be closed. In addition, a prevention campaign is being launched in ski areas that calls for prudent driving. Capacity is determined based on the best days of previous years. Restaurants and bars will be closed.
The governing council makes an urgent appeal to the residents and guests of the canton of Schwyz to take personal responsibility and constantly follow the concepts of protection of ski areas and the associated requirements. The situation is constantly being analyzed and the license can be withdrawn at any time depending on the development of the epidemiological situation.
The Federal Office of Public Health reported 116 new Covid-19 infections for the canton of Schwyz on Wednesday.
