Start of vaccination on Monday
The vaccine is taken to a central storage place in the canton of Graubünden, heavily refrigerated, explains the head of the Graubünden health department, Rudolf Leuthold. “Vaccination against Covid-19 cannot be compared to a conventional vaccine,” Leuthold said. In addition, educational discussions and files must be created. Graubünden takes over the federal software for this. According to Leuthold, the first vaccinations will begin on January 4, 2021 after noon at a retirement home in Chur. For the vaccine to develop the desired protective effect, according to Leuthold, a second vaccine must be given within 21 to 28 days.
According to Leuthold, preparations for vaccines are in full swing. They are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the federal government in the institutions and groups of people authorized for this purpose. From Chur, the mobile vaccination team will expand its activities to the entire area of the canton.
The canton of Graubünden expects 2,600 doses from the Federal Office of Public Health in an initial phase. These are administered to 1,300 people by mobile vaccination teams.
Due to the limited availability of the vaccine, particularly vulnerable people over 75 years of age, or residents of nursing homes and for the elderly, health personnel in contact with patients and caregivers of particularly vulnerable people have priority at the outset of the vaccination campaign.
Regional vaccination / testing centers are being created and will be operational from the second half of January. A total of around 9,000 doses of vaccines will be available in the canton of Graubünden at the end of January. Individual vaccination consultations are the responsibility of family doctors. Registration for vaccination is expected to be possible from mid-January and can be done electronically through the Swiss platform, either through the independent online registration or through the family doctor.
As soon as registration is possible, the information will be posted on the canton’s home page.
