As of Friday, September 18, 2020, 9:30 am, the Basel-Stadt health department registered a total of 1,289 positive cases of people residing in the canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 47 active cases in isolation and 384 people in quarantine.

Of the 47 active cases, two people are in the hospital. There are 384 people in quarantine: 283 people returning from a trip and 101 close contacts of infected people. The total number of 1,289 infections in the canton of Basel-Stadt since the beginning of the pandemic consists of 1,188 recovered people, 54 deaths and 47 active cases.
In the last four weeks, that is, in the period from August 21, 2020 to September 17, 2020, 119 new infections were recorded in the canton of Basel-Stadt. 47 percent (or 56 cases) of new infections could be assigned to known or suspected sources of infection. 25 people (45 percent) of the 56 new infections were infected while traveling, eight (14 percent) during leisure time, 14 (25 percent) in the family and nine (16 percent) at work.
The canton of Basel-Stadt has created an online notification form for people returning from risk areas on the website www.coronavirus.bs.ch or on the link www.coronavirus.bs.ch/reisemeldung Entry from an area with a higher risk of infection must still be notified to the canton of residence within two days of entry and the instructions of the responsible cantonal authorities must be followed.
Earlier in the week, the health department updated its database on infection and quarantine numbers and was one of the first cantons to establish a direct interface with the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) for data exchange. This means that data is transmitted and synchronized electronically by software.
