Italian Jannik Sinner (19) reached the final as the fourth teenager in the history of the ATP Masters in Miami. The super talent from South Tyrol defeated Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals with 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 4. Only Andre Agassi (18) in 1990, Rafael Nadal (18) in 2005 and Novak Djokovic ( 19) in 2007 were equally young and successful in Florida.
In general, the list of players who reached a Masters 1000 final in adolescence is very short and illustrious. The name Roger Federer is missing, others like Sampras, Hewitt or Roddick represent him.
Sinner broke in the deciding set and converted his first match point after 2:28. In the final he will face the Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
Barty defends the title
For women, world number 1 Ashleigh Barty successfully defended her title at the WTA tournament in Miami. The Australian won the final against Canadian Bianca Andreescu, who had to give up in 6: 3, 4: 0 from Barty’s point of view with an ankle injury.
Barty had won the tournament in Miami in 2019, the previous year the event was canceled due to the corona pandemic. For the 24-year-old it was her 10th title on the WTA tour, her second in 2021. Andreescu has to look forward to her first tournament win since her surprise win at the 2019 US Open.
