Great excitement in Villmergen on Easter Sunday: at 4:00 p.m. shots were fired on the grounds of the Mühlematten school building. Passers-by had seen several youths and heard screaming and shooting, canton police said Monday.
“There were three shots. You could clearly hear them in the neighborhood,” says a young local “Aargauer Zeitung” resident.
Eyewitnesses alerted the police. This was approached with numerous patrols. “It happened very fast,” said the reporter reader. Since none of the youth was on the school premises, the police launched a large-scale search. “The police cordoned off the neighborhood,” said the eyewitness.
Soon after, four young men returned: three Swiss and a 17, 18 and 19-year-old Kosovar. The police initially handcuffed her. One of the young men had a scratch on his head sewn in the hospital. In a second, the ambulance treated minor injuries to the face.
According to initial police results, the four youths were victims: They played basketball before six youths suddenly appeared. An argument broke out. One of the six assailants suddenly pulled out a pistol and fired multiple shots.
Gun was in the stream
Strangers are said to have hit all four basketball players with baseball bats. The knives are said to have been involved. The victims fought vigorously, whereupon the attackers released them and fled.
The victims managed to snatch the gun. Police were able to secure this in a nearby stream. “The weapon was sharp, he was shot,” police spokesman Bernhard Graser told TeleM1.
Despite further searches, the police were unable to find the alleged perpetrators. “His motives are still unclear,” wrote the cantonal police. The Muri-Bremgarten prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal investigation into the risk to life. Depending on the severity, the Penal Code provides for a fine of up to five years in prison. (pz)
