According to the latest weekly report from the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), there were 26,202 laboratory-confirmed cases in the week of November 23-29, 13.2 percent less than the previous week. This still corresponds to an average incidence of 303 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The proportion of positive tests decreased from 20.8 to 17.6 percent. The number of rapid antigen and PCR tests increased by 1.2 percent to just under 160,000.
However, the incidence fell, especially in those cantons that previously had a high number of cases, as the BAG writes in the report published Thursday. The number of cases tended to stagnate in cantons that previously had fairly low case numbers.
In the week in question, the incidence per 100,000 inhabitants in the cantons ranged from 158 (Nidwalden) to 427 (Ticino). The incidence decreased in 11 cantons and remained constant in 15.
860 people had to go to the hospital because of Covid-19, 273 fewer than the previous week. About 500 people received intensive care, five percent less than a week earlier.
The death toll dropped from 577 to 530. Due to some still-awaited reports, the number will likely stagnate to the previous week’s level, according to the report.
The number of people in isolation and quarantine has remained constant.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, it has been possible to collect comprehensive data on underlying diseases from 12,730 hospitalized people. Consequently, 14 percent had no relevant prior illnesses, 86 percent at least one. The three most common pre-existing conditions were high blood pressure (52 percent), cardiovascular disease (39 percent), and diabetes (25 percent).
