Until Saturday there will be a lot of rainfall in Ticino, Valais and parts of Graubünden. There is a risk of landslides and floods.
The Federal Office for Meteorology and Climatology (Meteoschweiz) warns of heavy storms and heavy and continuous rains, especially in the central and eastern Alpine regions and in Ticino, until noon on Saturday.
Heavy and continuous level 4 rain (great danger) predicts Meteoschweiz in a message on Twitter for the valleys of southern Valais, Ticino and southern Grisons. In the rest of the Alps, the danger posed by heavy rains is considerable (level 3) to moderate (level 2).
Foehn’s Storm Brings Hurricane Blasts
Regarding the wind, Meteoschweiz has issued an alert level 3 for the entire mentioned area. SRF Meteo predicts a foehn storm in the Alps with hurricane gusts of up to 150 km / h on the peaks and 100 km / h in the Alpine valleys.
According to SRF Meteo, there is a risk of thunderstorms with continuous rain, especially on Saturday night, in particular for the south and parts of the Valais and the canton of Graubünden. There is a high risk of landslides, debris flows and flooding with traffic obstructions.
By Sunday, 140 to 250 millimeters of rain per square meter could fall in many places on the southern side of the Alps and on the main Alpine range, locally even more. On the northern side of the Alps, it is also wet, but the amount of rain is significantly less.
