- After more than five years of trial against the far-right Greek party “Golden Dawn”, the verdict was reached today in Athens.

The leadership of the far-right Greek party Golden Dawn has been found guilty of creating a criminal organization.
Among the convicts is the party’s founder and leader, Nikolaos Michaloliakos. The condemned face up to ten years in prison, the reasons for the verdict and the sentence are expected in the next few days.
Applause when the verdict is announced
The Athens police were alert: unions and left-wing organizations had called demonstrations and rallies against fascism. The case was triggered by the death of a left-wing musician who was stabbed to death in 2013 by a supporter of the “Golden Dawn”.
When the verdict was delivered, numerous anti-fascist protesters applauded in the streets of Athens when the verdict was released. Subsequently, the autonomists took the opportunity to riot.
A small group threw projectiles. Police responded with tear gas and the use of a water cannon.
The process was caused by a murder
The trial against the right-wing extremist party was triggered by the death of a left-wing musician who was stabbed to death in 2013 by a “Golden Dawn” supporter. The author confessed and was also found guilty.
The incident was followed by house searches and investigations against the party leadership and numerous officials. For their part, they always spoke of a conspiracy against the political right in the trial.
