The former SRF anchor will run the NZZ Sunday newspaper in the future, as confirmed by reliable sources. This is a surprise, as Projer started as director of Blick TV a year ago.

Even insiders are in awe of this change in the Swiss media world: Jonas Projer is the new editor-in-chief of “NZZ am Sonntag”. In the NZZ Sunday newspaper, the 39-year-old will replace former editor-in-chief Luzi Bernet, who has been responsible for the newspaper since 2017. This is confirmed by reliable sources after CH-Media made the change public with reference to the Information available.

Projer goes underground, the NZZ is silent

No one wanted to officially confirm Tamedia’s surprising change: Jonas Projer could not be located. Luzi Bernet referred to the NZZ media office. This, in turn, did not respond to telephone and written inquiries.

Projer’s change is striking in several respects: The former SRF man started out as editor-in-chief and figurehead for the new Blick TV just a year ago. Ringier wanted to win over new target groups and advertising clients with this digital television project. It seems unclear how things could happen with Blick TV without a Projer.

Without much experience in print journalism

But Projer’s decision is also surprising because the 39-year-old does not have much experience in print journalism, which is still the core business of “NZZ am Sonntag”. Although Projer worked as a film critic for the “Landbote” supplement while studying English, he has become much better known as a television man. Therefore, it is unclear what strategy NZZ is following with a possible Projer change, if it wants to rely on motion pictures like Blick TV in the future.

As the current editor-in-chief of a tabloid outlet like Blick TV, Projer also contradicts the quality standards of “NZZ am Sonntag” and the newspaper’s left-liberal stance.

A rumor was mentioned in an earlier version of this article. This has now been confirmed by a reliable source.
