Two-thirds of all jobs are canceled at the Schneider carpentry in Pratteln. 70 out of 105 employees are affected. As bz reports, failed orders are the reason. The railway manufacturer Stadler Rail now builds its train toilets itself and no longer orders them from specialist Schneider. That costs the company sensitive orders.
Employees were informed of the reduction last Monday. Therefore, the subsidiary Systemtech Schneider AG is affected. The management explains the losses with a letter to the staff with the “decrease in orders caused by the Crown crisis” and with postponed assembly dates. The “production of components for the vehicle and wagon industry” is particularly affected. The failure of Stadler Rail orders is particularly serious: 80 percent of orders are lost. He goes on to say that there is no way to make up for this with any measure in the world.
New jobs at Stadler Rail?
Accordingly, the company makes great reproaches to Stadler Rail: “What has happened in the last few days, none of us understand”, Schneider’s letter is quoted in the newspaper. The refusal of the offer to Stadler, which had offered advantages to both companies, shows “once again the opacity of a large company”. Stadler Rail has “apparently forgotten that there is a whole family behind every employee.”
Stadler Rail, on the other hand, writes that the accusations are “clearly rejected.” A solution was still possible in spring 2020 that would have allowed operations to continue. “Unfortunately, Systemtech Schneider has rejected all the proposed solutions.” According to the report, some employees have the prospect of a job at Stadler – the first job interviews with Schneider employees are ongoing.
