Scammers distribute fake phone bills in the Basel area

[ad_1]

The Basel-Landschaft police are receiving more and more reports from the population about false phone bills from Swisscom, according to the Basel police. The authorities advise caution.

The scammers are trying to lure potential victims with an email adorned with Swisscom logos and the alleged double-monthly refund. The aim of the scammers is to steal the login details for the Swisscom (Switzerland) AG online portal and then the credit card details.

Police give advice

If the scammers’ phishing scam is successful, a credit card charge is triggered immediately, as the police warn. Scammers try to get hold of the security code sent by the financial institution via SMS (without going through two-factor authentication).

The Basel-Landschaft police advise caution and ask the population to observe the following rules of conduct:

  • Please ignore the email and do not confirm receipt of the email. Don’t contact scammers.
  • Don’t click on any links in emails if you are not 100 percent sure about the sender.
  • Never reveal personal data about yourself if you have not done a thorough investigation beforehand.
