Vincent Ducrot (58) took over the driver’s cab at SBB Group in April amid the lockdown. For the year 2020 which is coming to an end, the head of SBB expects a loss “probably around 600 million francs”. All in all, the coronavirus crisis will cost SBB “around two billion francs net”, he explains in an interview with “CH Media” newspapers.
The SBB will remain in the red next year. The deficit is likely to be several hundred million francs, says Ducrot. In about three to four years, SBB wants to return to the pre-crisis level, it is also said.
No price increases
However, in view of these shortcomings, SBB does not want to increase rates. “That would be inappropriate,” emphasizes Ducrot. Rather, rail operations need to become more efficient and continue to save costs, he says.
The Freiburg resident was also confident with GA customers that the ten percent or 45,000 overall subscriptions that did not renew this year would mostly return later.
No layoffs
The SBB boss also rejects the layoffs as austerity measure. This is not a problem, he emphasized to “CH Media”. “But we have enough fluctuation to cut jobs when necessary,” he explains.
SBB is increasing the workforce in the operational area, according to Ducrot, but is holding back the workforce in administration.
The death of his wife was a shock
Eight months after taking office, SBB boss Ducrot arrived with the people. “I can’t walk a meter without being recognized. Sometimes employees want to take selfies with me, ”he says. But that’s a bit difficult in the days of Corona.
Busy but not neglecting the family: Ducrot has six children between the ages of 12 and 20 and is a single father. How do you balance work and children? “Much is a matter of good organization. We are well rehearsed, my children are quite autonomous. But we have a close contact that always remains ”, he told the“ CH-Media ”newspapers.
The death of his wife was a “shock situation” for Ducrot. “The first months were chaotic. That is probably the case for everyone who is suddenly alone. “The death of his wife brought everyone together at the same time.” It forced us to look for new solutions; my wife had always achieved a lot. “Finally, he and his offspring would have found a way.” My children are happy, “Ducrot emphasizes.
Incisive experience helps professionally
In offspring care, the deciding factor is not quantity, but quality. «My children know: if something is important, they can always communicate with me. I pick up the cell phone, even if they call me at a board meeting. “His children wrote him a WhatsApp for less important things.” These rules work very well. “
The experience of his wife’s death, the subsequent time with the family, were decisive for him. “These experiences help me put things in perspective. Anyone whose wife has died can understand that. “
Ducrot continues: “Anyone who has experienced the emotions of children who have lost their mother can cope with crises. The robustness is there. This situation made me stronger. I always tell my people: one problem at a time. Keep calm. “(Uro / SDA)

The Freiburg native had worked in project management at the Federal Railways from 1993 to 2011, until he was appointed Director General of the Freiburg Transport Authority (TPF) in 2011.
