There was a train accident on the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) on Monday night between Tiefencastel and Thusis, as confirmed by the RhB to “suedostschweiz.ch” that night. In front of the town of Sils im Domleschg, a car collided with blocks of stone weighing several hundred kilograms, as Roman Rüegg, a media spokesman for the Grisons cantonal police, announced Tuesday morning. “At least three stone blocks were lying on the tracks due to a falling rock.” As a result of the collision, the control car and two passenger cars rolled off the rails. The train conductor suffered moderate injuries in the accident. Cleaning work is going according to plan
The Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway will remain interrupted between Thusis and Tiefencastel until further notice. The RhB announced Tuesday night that the recovery work was progressing well. “The control car and the first passenger car could be put on the rails and removed. During the night, the damaged third car will also be put on the rails and withdrawn with the rest of the cars so that the repair of the track and infrastructure can begin on Wednesday, ”wrote the RhB in a message. Replacement buses run between Thusis and Tiefencastel. Travelers are asked to plan for more travel time. Travelers from St. Gallen or Zurich in the direction of Engadin should preferably travel via Landquart – Prättigau – Vereina. Individual solutions are sought for Bündner Güterbahn customers.
