Rudy Giuliani (76) is one of the most loyal companions of Donald Trump (74). He is the personal attorney for the US President and leads the legal team that tried unsuccessfully to reverse Trump’s electoral defeat. But now it is clear: Giuliani will not defend Trump in the second impeachment process.
Last week it was even said that Trump broke up with his lawyer. After it became clear that a second impeachment against him was pending, the US president was said to be so furious that he told those around him that Giuliani’s legal fees should no longer be paid.
Rudy Giuliani can’t defend Trump
Now Rudy Giuliani has told ABC News that he will not defend Trump. The reason given by the lawyer, however, is that he cannot represent Donald Trump due to his own participation in the Save America Rally in Washington on January 6.
“Since I gave a speech, I am a witness and therefore I cannot participate in court or in the Senate Chamber,” Giuliani said. However, Trump’s attorney said he would have been willing to argue that Trump’s remarks about voter fraud would not constitute incitement to violence.
Trump again indicted for “inciting a riot”
After the “Save America Rally” and a speech by Donald Trump, Trump fans stormed the Capitol. Five people were killed in the Washington riots. Donald Trump is now indicted again in connection with the assault on the Capitol for “inciting a riot.” He is the first president to face a second impeachment trial. (euc)
