Three houses evacuated

The community announced Thursday afternoon that three houses had been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Residents in the rockfall area were asked not to be outdoors. The community leadership team was convened.

The area was cordoned off on a large scale by firefighters. The community rejects any responsibility if barriers are ignored, he said.

At first it was not possible to assess whether there was a risk of further rock falls. In rockfalls, the danger of them being blown up is particularly high, the community wrote. Therefore, a sufficient distance must be kept from the landing area.

Fight against the forces of nature

Felsberg had to fight natural disasters over and over again for centuries. Rhine floods, landslides and fires often caused extensive damage.

The Calanda landslides, namely that of 3./4. September 1843, were decisive for the founding of the new village. With a great crash, boulders the size of a house fell into the depths that night and threatened the town without causing significant damage. (then / sda)
