Roche’s rapid test with the complicated name “SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Nasal Rapid Test” receives self-test exemption from Swissmedic. The test will be available in pharmacies in Switzerland from April 7.
An exemption for corona self-tests has only recently been possible in Switzerland. In fact, in Switzerland, these tests must always be evaluated by specialists. In the Corona regulations, a special permit for corona self-tests has now been issued. And now the first self-test has been approved by the therapeutic products authority Swissmedic.

Healthy people always recognized
The Roche test is taken from the front of the nose rather than the nasopharynx, which is much more comfortable.
According to Roche, the test has a sensitivity of 82.5 percent and a specificity of 100 percent. Sensitivity indicates how reliably an infected person is recognized. Specificity corresponds to the certainty that a healthy person will also be recognized as such. In addition, the test is as reliable as a test carried out by specialized personnel.
“Swissmedic’s exemption for our test offers people in Switzerland a reliable opportunity to comfortably test themselves at home,” says Timo Niskanen, general manager of Roche Diagnostics Switzerland.
