The product is not yet on the market. When the time comes, vaccination with a Covid-19 agent should be mandatory. This is at least the opinion of Christoph Franz (60), chairman of Roche’s board of directors. “Personally, I am in favor of mandatory vaccinations,” says Franz in today’s issue of the “Handelszeitung”. “Although I know this is a controversial position.” In the preliminary print, which is available to VIEW, the Swiss business leader continues: “Protecting the herd in a town is very important.” Because a vaccine is not just a protection measure for you.
Franz: Fight Corona with vaccination only
“With a vaccine, everyone contributes to ensuring that the entire population is protected.” And so that the restrictions can be dispensed with. “In this sense, compulsory vaccination creates freedom elsewhere,” says the father of five.
A vaccination requirement for the population? A yes from the chairman of Roche, but a clear rejection from Alain Berset (48). “There is no compulsory vaccination,” the Health Minister said yesterday at a press conference. Each person can decide for themselves if they want to be vaccinated.
Aimed at 60 percent vaccination coverage
To control the coronavirus in the long term, Switzerland is aiming for a 60 percent vaccination rate, Berset added.
It should be a while before a crown vaccine, perhaps the one from Biontech / Pfizer, hits the Swiss market on a large scale. “The general situation will not improve until the middle of next year,” says Roche chairman Franz. First of all, it is necessary to vaccinate the elderly, vulnerable and with previous diseases. The second priority is employees in the healthcare sector and nursing homes.
