At the Liestaler Manorfiliale the pastry shop could already be found on Monday with the adapted packaging. In June, the department store chain banned the frothy delicacy from the shelves.
The reason for this was the controversial name, which had once again sparked heated discussions in the course of the Black Lives Matter movement. The name had already been criticized in the past.
After two weeks the foam kisses returned
As can now be seen, the absence of the product was short-lived. “Manor decided to bring Richterich foam kisses back into their range after the manufacturer confirmed that the original product name will be changed to a neutral name in the fall,” says Manor spokesperson Sofia Conraths when asked. . After the fierce debates in June, they sought another conversation with Richterich AG after the waves calmed down a bit.
In the coming weeks, all branches will be stocked with the freshly labeled candy. This also includes the stately branches in Baden, Biel, Emmen and Rapperswil. There, Dubler’s “Mohrenköpfe” were replaced by Richterich AG’s. Aargau Dubler’s company had vehemently refused to change the controversial name.
Surprising change of mind at Richterich
The Richterich house foam kisses were only available for two weeks. Since they were back on the shelves, sales have developed very positively, underscoring the quality and popularity of the product, explains Conraths. When foam kisses were briefly unavailable, the mansion received very positive reactions from customers on one hand. On the other hand, criticism was also expressed.
It is surprising that Othmar Richterich AG has now adjusted the gold foil. The Laufner company had repeatedly insisted not to change the name. The company told the bz three years ago that the chances of saying goodbye to the expression “Mohrenkopf” were nil. Before we stop, he told himself at the time.
The name originates from the nickname of the Laufnerinnen and Laufner, who are popularly known in Laufental and neighboring Schwarzbubenland “Mohren”. It was therefore obvious that the Richterich family from Ur-Laufner created their own “Mohrenkopf”, according to the company’s website.
You don’t bow under pressure
The question arises as to why the chocolate maker from the small town of Birs has changed his mind. Spokeswoman Cécile Grüninger explains: “It is a pragmatic decision not to print the word Mohrenkopf on the gold foil anymore.” Obviously there are people who are not happy with the name. The new movie is meant to take this into account.
Grüninger contradicts that the family business eventually gave in to public pressure. “We are simply responding to the wishes of some customers.” At the same time, he notes that Richterich has received significantly more comments in recent months from people wanting to keep the controversial name.
By the way, this will not completely disappear at Richterich AG. On the boxes and bags in the popular Laufen factory store it still says “Foam Mohrenkopf.”
