With a silver medal in the time trial, Marlen Reusser has definitely reached the top of the world. And that amazingly fast.
Marlen Reusser couldn’t really rate her hit in the world championship time trial. “During the race you fight like this. Somehow you feel bad and you have the feeling that it won’t be enough, ”said the Berna woman, describing her emotional state.
Reusser’s worries were in vain. The 28-year-old was well placed in the battle for the medals from the start. After defending champion Chloé Dygert had to give up due to a fall, Reusser suddenly fought for the world title. The fact that he was left behind in front of the highly decorated Dutch Anna van der Breggen does not diminish his performance.
28, 17, 6, 2: what’s next?
In 2017, Reusser sat on a racing bike for the first time in competition and immediately became a Swiss time trial champion. Even then, Swiss Cycling officials confirmed that the Bern woman had enormous potential. 4 years later, the career changer has reached the top of the world in the fight against the clock.
The easiest way to document your progress is to look at the World Championship results in the time trial: 28, 17, 6, and now second place. It seems that a further increase is expected in the future. “It has always been clear that I can be a strong time trial. In terms of physique, I’m cut out for that. We worked hard to achieve this success, ”says Reusser.
In any case, the newly crowned world champion Van der Breggen is sure that Reusser can also be expected in the future.
