After the end of the war, the very small area desperately tried to find its way back to precarious normality. The obvious destruction can be repaired. It is more difficult to part with the destroyed illusions.
Around noon, Stepanakert turns into a lively town. Buses that left the Armenian capital, Yerevan, early in the morning, arrive at Rebirth Square in the city center. Women and children return to the main city of Nagorni Karabakh. During the 44-day war that began with the attack on Azerbaijan on September 27, tens of thousands of them had left Stepanakert and many of the smaller settlements in the region for Armenia. Now the guns have been silent for almost three weeks. The city administration does its best to suggest normalcy.
