However, many FPÖ voters have now turned away. In the last elections in Vienna, the Freedom Party won more than 30 percent. Now, after the split, Strache and the old party still share about 15 percent, according to polls.

Even if Strache hits the five percent hurdle: Political scientist Peter Filzmaier predicts it will be a second without a coalition partner. “Strache doesn’t want to do any day-to-day political work in a parliamentary body,” says Filzmaier.
For him, it is just a “communication platform for future political activities without which he cannot live.” In this sense, going to the parliament of the federal capital Vienna is a key issue for Strache. It will be clarified in Sunday’s elections.
