The new building of the Bern special education school is becoming a reality. The construction loan of 30.8 million francs was clearly accepted by the electorate of the city of Bern with 89.46%. The school offers space for 50 children and adolescents with cognitive and partial disabilities.

There are seven classes at the current location; this number can be increased to 12 at the new location. The school has existed for 50 years and is currently divided into two buildings. One is at Tscharnerstrasse 10, the other at Hopfenrain 10. These would need to be renovated due to their age.

A two-story replacement building is planned on urban land on Statthalterstrasse. In addition to the classrooms, there will be a neighborhood kitchen, gym, therapy rooms and a library.

Construction is expected to take place by the end of the year and the new building should open in two years. (cla)

This is how the votes were distributed: votes in favor 47,681 (89.46%), votes against 5,617 (10.54%). The participation was 66.93%.
