After 11 years, the 32-year-old player closes the first level sports chapter. The Engelberg athlete resigns with immediate effect.
The ups and downs were very close in Marc Gisin’s career. He was repeatedly rejected for serious injuries. In 2012, at the World Cup at home in Crans Montana, he tore a cruciate ligament in his knee. When he fell in Kitzbühel in January 2015, he suffered a traumatic brain injury with a brain hemorrhage.
Gisin made it even worse in December 2018 when he fell into the Val Gardena descent. He suffered another traumatic brain injury, as well as several broken bones and a bruised lung, which nearly cost him his life. But Gisin never gave up and always struggled to get back to the World Cup.
Twice fifth in Kitzbühel
His body never fully recovered from the serious injuries. For this reason, Gisin decided to retire from top-level sport.
Gisin, who made his World Cup debut in Wengen in 2009, has two fifth places in Kitzbühel (2016 and 2018) as the best results. In February 2018, the 32-year-old took part in the Winter Games in Pyeongchang. It was never enough for him to participate in the World Cup.
