The Hundschilen Bridge in Bauma ZH has been renovated since spring. Much to the chagrin of hikers, dogs, and travelers, the municipality did not provide a temporary replacement. “That disappointed me,” resident Anton Nock told the “Landbote.”
He used the crossing every day to get to his workplace. The skilled craftsman and conversion business owner didn’t let that get on him. His plan: build a bridge over Töss itself. The municipality and the tourist office did not want to know anything about it.
He also fell on deaf ears at the Office of Waste, Water, Energy and Air (Awel), and was fired. “They told me they had a lot of inquiries at the moment and that my project was not a priority,” said Nock. Therefore, in early April, he decided to just build the walkway, without a permit.
“It’s a shame that the bridge caused a swing”
Then all of a sudden things happened very fast: just one day after the bridge was built, the Awelds suddenly had time and rejected Nock’s request. Reason: flood safety is not guaranteed and liability in case of accidents is unclear. Then access to the bridge was blocked.
The walkway was so popular with cyclists, hikers, and residents that the barrier was removed the same day. “I think it’s a shame that the little bridge caused so many swings,” said Nock.
The bridge must remain until November
In the end, however, Nock was able to reach an agreement with authorities and made the bridge flood-proof. In addition, a warning sign was posted in front of the crossing. “Enter at your own risk,” he says. This also clarifies the question of liability.
And: Whoever crosses the bridge can pay a voluntary toll. According to Nock, all this will go to the SRF’s “Denk an mich” foundation. About 3,000 francs have been raised so far, he says. Nock wants to leave the bridge standing until November; by then, the Hundschilen bridge should be renovated and reopened. (support)
