Richterswil Paracelsus Hospital will close its doors at the end of November. Attempts to rescue the hospital, which was experiencing financial difficulties due to the Corona crisis, failed.
Despite intense discussions with various potential cooperation partners as part of the real estate moratorium, it was not possible to find a suitable partner for the hospital. This although other hospitals are overcrowded due to Corona.
The emergency department will stop operating on November 23, the hospitalization area on November 27. An orderly delivery of medical records is guaranteed. Services in the field of obstetrics for patients at the gynecological clinic will be guaranteed by Lachen Hospital and Einsiedeln Hospital from 23 November.
The pharmacy and the center will remain in place without the hospital.
The Paracelsus pharmacy in Richterswil and the Paracelsus Sonnenberg center in Zurich will be maintained and will continue outside the hospital in new organizational units. The corresponding agreements are being prepared. Paracelsus Hospital is trying to find new solutions for employees affected by the closure. Part of the workforce will be assumed by associated hospitals, which in the future will attend to the patients of Paracelsus hospital.
The hospital announced on October 23 that it was in debt restructuring moratorium. The Corona crisis has exacerbated the already difficult situation of the small hospital. The number of cases had not increased enough even after the closure, the hospital said at the time.
