McConnell congratulates Biden and earns the ire of Trump and his friends
“The electoral committee has spoken.” This statement by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel, one of the highest Republicans, was not well received by other members of the party.
Mitch McConnell was considered one of the closest confidants of current President Donald Trump. now his loyalty is questioned. The senior Republican has long resisted acknowledging the election result officially. But yesterday it happened:
“Millions of us expected that the presidential election would lead to a different outcome. However, our system of government has processes that determine who will be sworn in on January 20. The electoral council has spoken. So today I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden. “
Members of the Republican Party were not happy with these statements, as McConnell indirectly expressed that he did not believe in voter fraud.
New Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene finds clear words:
Lin Wood, Trump’s campaign attorney, is even clearer:
“Mitch McConnell is NOT a patriot. Asks his wife. She knows. McConnel just wants power, influence and money. He’s ready to sell America to get what he wants. McConnell is a traitor to American patriots. His day of judgment will come. “
Former security adviser and recently pardoned Michael Flynn also criticized McConnell for accepting the election result:
“Millions and millions and millions of patriots are behind, beside and in front of you during this crucial moment in the history of the United States where our republic is at stake. We will not fail or bow our heads as others in the Republican Party have done. “
Of course, a comment from Trump was swift:
Mitch McConnell’s recognition of Biden’s victory will make life for Republican members that much more difficult. If until now they have simply been able to follow the silence of the Republican leader, they will soon have to take a position themselves.
According to the Washington Post, which follows the statements of Republican deputies, 208 of them so far have not commented on the outcome of the elections. 37 acknowledge Biden’s victory and only two believe in Trump’s victory. With McConnell’s admission, there should soon be some movement in these statistics. (Saw)
