Relaxations for risk groups need to be redefined

The Federal Office of Public Health, in view of the number of corona cases per day that is currently decreasing slightly and the beginning of contact tracking by cantons, offers relaxation measures for groups at risk. In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, 76 people were infected with the corona virus in one day.

The BAG reported 88 additional cases on Sunday, compared with 112 on Saturday. The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) is working to redefine the flexibilization of risk groups, especially older people, Daniel Koch, BAG delegate for Covid-19, said Monday in front of the Bundeshaus media.

The difficult situation, especially for older people in households, has been going on for a long time and is very difficult for those affected. Think, for example, of relief when visiting family members.

According to Koch, the federal government deliberately worked with recommendations rather than prohibitions and appealed to the people’s personal responsibility. Therefore, older people should not be discriminated against for their behavior.

Mandatory quarantine

With contact tracing, the number of cases could be further reduced and thus keep small outbreaks under control, Koch said. Contact persons would be searched by cantons and placed in quarantine. It is not a voluntary quarantine and violations are punishable. How the cantons carried out the quarantine is up to them.

Koch again emphasized that the population must continue to adhere to hygiene rules and distance regulations. Tuesday is the international day of hand hygiene. A year ago, no one would have thought that this day could become so important even in Swiss latitudes, Koch said.

Almost 30,000 crown boxes

According to the BAG, there were a total of 29,981 laboratory-confirmed cases on Monday. The number of cases is subject to a weekly fluctuation with lower numbers on weekends.

The number of deaths associated with Covid-19 lung disease in all cantons combined was 1783 according to the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday night.

Keystone-SDA analyzes the official data available on the cantons’ websites and updates it twice a day, at noon and at night.

The BAG reported the death toll at 1477. The Federal Office refers to reports that laboratories and doctors had submitted as of Monday morning as part of the reporting obligation. The BAG writes that the number may therefore deviate from the canton numbers. There were 349 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

So far, a total of 282,750 tests have been carried out. According to the BAG, twelve percent of these were positive. A person may have been tested multiple times. The BAG recommends testing for all patients with symptoms of Covid-19.

Stressed in running of the bulls

The crown crisis is an important psychological burden for many people. According to a study by the University of Basel, almost every second person felt more stressed during the shutdown than before the crisis. There was also a marked increase in depressive symptoms.

The main reasons for stress were changes in work or training, limited social life, and the burden of child care.

Dark image for business

Unemployed people, bankruptcies, massive drop in economic performance and no prospect of rapid improvement: this is the image of the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs (Seco). Currently, 1.91 million people are registered to work short-term in 187,000 companies, as Seco director Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch told the media in Bern on Monday.

For Switzerland, the Seco forecasts a 6.7 percent decrease in gross domestic product (GDP) this year; production will collapse by 25 percent. Much depends on the status of trading partners, including the most important for Switzerland: Germany.

Start-up warranty program ready to go

Meanwhile, the federal startup guarantee program is ready to go. Applications can be submitted this Thursday through August 31, Seco announced Monday. The federal government, the cantons and third parties jointly guarantee one hundred percent of up to one million francs per startup.

The total volume of the guarantees is CHF 154 million. On April 22, the Federal Council decided to support promising startups with crown-related liquidity shortages through the guarantee system. Federally recognized guarantee organizations aim to provide new businesses with easier access to bank loans.

Bars and clubs want clarity.

Nightlife venues should not be reopened in a “whirlwind” exercise. This is what the Swiss Bar and Club Commission meets. Companies with planning security would be better served.

The bars and clubs commission is skeptical of the demands, which have now become noisy, for the reopening of bars, lounges or clubs as quickly as possible. Especially in the hereafter, the requirement for social distancing is difficult to implement spatially and economically.

Above all, however, companies need a “clear announcement” from which up to 1,000 people can take place again in Switzerland, the association stressed. This must be known before May 27, with a waiting time of at least one month.

3,200 army members still in action

Right now, 3,200 members of the military are still deployed to support civilian authorities in fighting the coronavirus, as Brigadier Raynald Droz, chief of command operations personnel at the Federal Defense Department, said Monday. Civil Protection and Sports (VBS). The mission continued until all requests could be finalized. At the moment, 66 missions would continue to be carried out in 19 cantons.
