The elementary school starts working again. Stores, cafes, restaurants, gyms, libraries and museums can also open their doors if they have taken protective measures.
Travellers: Public transportation now works largely according to normal hours. There was no lively activity in Bern and Zurich early in the morning. In Bern, the first intercity trains to and from Zurich and Lausanne were moderately busy, a reporter for the Keystone-SDA news agency reported. As a result, the distance rules could be easily observed. Passengers only occasionally wore protective masks on the trains and at the station.
At Zurich main station and Oerlikon station, the passenger volume in the morning at seven o’clock was comparable to passenger flows a week ago, as a Keystone SDA reporter discovered.
Students: Compulsory schools across Switzerland have resumed operations, albeit with restrictions and distance rules in places. Because the cantons are responsible for how children and teachers should be protected. Protection concepts sometimes differ from school to school.
Furthermore, not all cantons start the same: in many cantons, mainly German-speaking, instruction in compulsory schools begins quite normally. Especially in western Switzerland and Ticino, but also in Zurich and St. Gallen, there are initially smaller groups and middle classes.
Customers: Stores and malls are also opening their doors and gates today, leading in some places to long lines.
The first customers were already at 7 a.m. at the IKEA entrance in Spreitenbach, although the store only opened two hours later. When the line opened, the queue in the underground department store garage grew to about 250 people. When the doors opened, the first customers were applauded by employees, as Keystone-SDA reports.
Bar and restaurant operators: Many restaurants are open today, or are going on take-out sales to let their guests sit at the tables. But this is not a return to normality. Distance rules apply and the number of guests is limited. Providing contact details is voluntary.
Staff must clean and disinfect after each guest. There are no newspapers and magazines because they go through many hands. If the minimum distance cannot be observed, the association recommends personal hygiene masks.
