The Federal Council had already decided in early February that the three referendums, subject to certification, will be presented to the people in mid-June 2021. As announced by the Federal Chancellery on Wednesday, the three requests have received enough valid signatures.
In the referendum against the Covid-19 law, 90,789 valid signatures were found. 97,878 were filed. The referendum aims to prevent the Federal Council’s powers in emergency law from being subsequently legitimized during the pandemic and extended until the end of 2021. The Covid-19 law is already in force. If the referendum were successful, corona buses would likely be obsolete, but so would financial support for the industries in question.
The Federal Chancellery itself certifies thanks to Corona
Two commissions presented signatures in the referendum against the CO2 law. According to the Federal Chancellery, 72,622 of the 123,879 signatures against the CO2 Law are valid, although the authority refrained from having more certified signatures. The voting battle is likely to be heated.
Of the 141,264 signatures presented by various commissions for the referendum against the Antiterrorist Law, the Federal Chancellery declared 76,926 valid using the same model.
Currently, the Federal Chancellery is certifying the signatures. The basis for this is a corresponding passage in the Covid-19 regulation. This allows committees to submit signature lists to the Federal Chancellery for the first time without a certificate of voting rights. This has only obtained the certificates of voting rights in the municipalities to the extent necessary.
