The German airline and its daughters are returning 80 parked planes. At first, they are mainly based on smaller models.
The Lufthansa Group owns 744 passenger aircraft. Only one in ten of these currently takes off regularly. That changes in June. So Eurowings, Lufthansa and Swiss gradually start again. 80 parked planes will wake you up from your crown dream in the coming weeks.
Lufthansa and Eurowings rely on their smaller aircraft to restart after travel restrictions across Europe. The first Airbus A319s and A320s return to the fleet, as a spokesperson explains. Previously, the trend was in the other direction: the A319 became too small for many routes and was gradually replaced. They offer space for 138 passengers in Lufthansa and 144 to 150 passengers in Eurowings.
Slow recovery only
Swiss has already announced that it will primarily use the Airbus A220 with 125 and 145 seats. However, all airlines use other intermediate models. Because they have to make sure that their pilots can get their licenses.
Lufthansa Group airlines plan to use 160 aircraft again in late June. They assume that demand will recover only slowly.
