- The first of the two titan arum flowers has unfolded at Papiliorama in Kerzers (FR).
- The second copy of the world’s largest flower will also be in bloom shortly, as Papiliorama announced.
This year, the flowers at Kerzers are displayed behind the scenes, in the greenhouse outside the public area. The Papiliorama is open, but Corona prevents a large public march. Webcams help.
More about titan arum flowers at Kerzers
The Papiliorama Foundation received a titan arum on loan from the Basel Botanical Garden in 2016. This should blossom a little later. The tuber, which weighed 87 kilograms at the time, only produced one leaf instead of the coveted flower.

After that, the tuber divided into several young tubers, something rare. The young tubers were individually potted and cared for by the gardening team. A few weeks ago the plants were moved to the new greenhouse.

It is surprising that the two largest of these young tubers are already producing a flower. “That clearly shows us how little we know about this mysterious plant,” explained Papiliorama director Caspar Bijleveld in a press release.
