Ever-changing quarantine rules, sometimes contradictory in many countries, cripple tourism. Air traffic in particular is affected by this. The pharmaceutical company Roche, with which Lufthansa is currently negotiating, already offers a rapid test that can detect sick people in minutes. The parent company’s subsidiaries, including Swiss and Edelweiss, should soon benefit from this.
The tests are not limited to travel classes and are carried out at a cost of ten euros at the expense of the passenger, according to the “SonntagsZeitung”. Aeropers, the pilots association of Switzerland and Edelweiss, welcomes the initiative of the German parent company. The concept of federal quarantine raises questions and exacerbates the crisis in air traffic, said spokesman Thomas Steffen.
Insufficient Covid app
According to the “NZZ am Sonntag”, Zurich airport is already examining how these rapid tests could be integrated into operations. The decision as to whether the quarantine rules for screened travelers will be relaxed rests with the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG).
A quick test with enough informational value would be a “great boon,” says economics professor Jan-Egbert Sturm of the national Covid-19 task force. A new study shows that in Switzerland contact tracing via the Covid app works, but is not widely used. So far, only 65 infected people have been found. (kes)
