After new revelations in the Vincenz case: HSG professor Johannes Rüegg-Stürm retires from teaching, but remains active as professor

(pd / lim) After new details were released in the case of former Raiffeisen CEO Pierin Vincenz, former Raiffeisen chairman and HSG professor Johannes Rüegg-Stürm also came under fire. “To relieve the university” has now offered to retire from teaching, the HSG announced. “The university appreciates this offer.” The corresponding agreement was concluded, which was approved by the University Council.
What is Rüegg-Stürm accused of?
The racy details were made public in the run-up to the criminal proceedings against former Raiffeisen CEO Pierin Vincenz: Rüegg-Stürm, as chairman of the board of directors at the time, is said to have targeted and waved the signal for light leisure spending and luxury of the CEO accused without critical questions.
Despite criticism, the University of St. Gallen stuck to its former professor and research director of organizational studies and director of the Institute for Systematic Management and Public Governance. Meanwhile, cantonal parliamentary groups in St. Gallen called for tough measures and also raised the issue of dismissal.
Workload will be reduced to 40 percent
In conversations with the President of the University Council, Government Councilor Stefan Kölliker, and HSG Rector Bernhard Ehrenzeller, Johannes Rüegg-Stürm offered to end his teaching position as Senior Lecturer at HSG. After the end of the current semester, that is, on July 31, 2021, in teaching (bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level).
This step is accompanied by a reduction in their employment level to 40 percent. According to the announcement, Rüegg-Stürm will continue to work as a professor at HSG and will focus on his research activities as well as university self-management tasks (eg commission work). The University Council has approved the corresponding agreement with Rüegg-Stürm.
