Nothing new about Formula 1: Mercedes dominated the classification in Belgium at will. Meanwhile, Ferrari is experiencing a debacle.
The Mercedes also drives in a different league in qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Lewis Hamilton took his 93rd pole position (sixth at Spa) ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas and set a new lap record.
Hamilton dedicated the qualifying victory to actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away Saturday night, who lost his battle with cancer.
For the sixth time in the seventh standings of the season, Mercedes has taken over the entire row. Only in Spielberg’s second race (Bottas from fourth position) did the two Silver Arrows not start again.
Next disappointment for Ferrari
Ferrari can only dream of such results right now. Both Charles Leclerc (13th) and Sebastian Vettel (14th) clearly missed Q3, for the first time this season.
“I can’t get out of the car anymore,” Leclerc later radioed to his box. After all, the Italians were able to avoid total humiliation from the third training session, when Leclerc drove to 17th place, Vettel was even left behind.
No surprise at Alfa-Romeo
Once again, Alfa-Romeo waited in vain for a feat. The launch was already announced after Q1: Kimi Räikkönen will tackle the race on Sunday from 16th place and Antonio Giovinazzi from 18th place.
