Sony has finally revealed the price and launch of the new Playstation 5
The Playstation 5 will hit the market on November 19. The most important information about the console, prices and games at a glance.
When will the PS5 be released?
We will be selling the new Sony console starting November 19, 2020 and in the US and some other countries starting November 12.
How much does the PS5 cost?
The PS5 will be available in two versions: with a 4K Blu-ray drive for 500 euros or probably 500 francs and as a driveless digital edition for 400 euros or 400 francs. With the digital version, games cannot be installed via disc, they can only be downloaded.
The PS5 costs the same as Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. The PS5 Digital Edition costs around 100 francs more than the Xbox Series S.
When can the PS5 be pre-ordered?
According to Sony, pre-sales will begin “at select dealers” on Thursday, September 17, 2020.

What is known about the technology?
Sony already revealed specific technical data for the Playstation 5 in March. Based on available specs, the PS5 is roughly on par with Microsoft’s new Xbox Series X and stronger than the Xbox Series S, which is also cheaper.

- Internal memory can be expanded using a faster external SDD or cheaper hard drive
- “Only” 16 GB of RAM, but game developers can use the fast SSD (data rate with 5.5 GByte / s) as an expansion for main memory

- New 3D audio features
- Compatible with older versions of PS4 and PS4 Pro (Legacy modes)
- The PS5 should be significantly quieter
What does the controller look like?
The design of the new PS5 controller differs fundamentally from the previous Dualshock controller. The new Dualsense costs around 70 francs and, according to Sony, it offers:
- Haptic feedback (replaces vibration technology)

Rival Microsoft officially confirmed prices for its new Xbox Series X and Series S a few days ago. Series X costs 499 francs, Series S somewhat weaker without unit 299 francs. Both Xbox models will launch on November 10, 2020 and will be available for pre-order starting on September 22.
