GE wants to cut 436 jobs at Oberentfelden according to its own information. The unions even speak of 562 jobs that would be eliminated.
The consultation process is currently ongoing between employees and employers in Switzerland, but also at the European level. Thomas Bauer, president of the Personnel Representation for GE’s Oberentfelden, Baden AG and Birr AG locations, could not say what specific demands they would make, referring to ongoing proceedings.
Cessation of production
The electricity grids division GE Grid Solutions wants to stop production at Oberentfelden. That should have happened by the end of 2021. The service shop will also close its doors forever. At the beginning of September 2020, an affected person told VIEW: “One third of the jobs will be lost, the rest will be outsourced to Italy, France or even Asia.”
The reason for this is the difficult outlook for the global gas-insulated switchgear market and the need for the division to consolidate its production sites to improve competitiveness, GE announced in September. (SDA / uro)
