The Spanish Movistar team is very fond of Johan Jacobs. Especially on Sunday at the Tour of Flanders.
Johan Jacobs has left Zürcher Unterland behind. Since the 24-year-old has fully trusted the street map, he has moved to Belgium. Middelkerke on the coast offers the son of a Belgian woman and a Swiss woman perfect training opportunities. Jacobs knows the roads and cobblestones in the area.
It is one of those circumstances that made the Swiss interesting for the Movistar team. After his first season, the Spanish team extended the contract with Jacobs for another 3 years.
On the team’s website, Jacobs is referred to as the “Swiss locomotive”, as Stefan Küng once did when he was on the train. Jacob’s career, however, began in cycling. The Zurich man was a four-time Swiss champion in the junior ranks, but moved to the road in 2019 with a contract with Lotto-Soudal’s U23 team.
At Movistar, he currently mainly assumes the role of assistant to his captain Iván García Cortina. But he also dreams of one day winning one of the great classics.
