Small parcels were only classified in mail centers during the crisis to cope with parcel flooding. That will probably be the case more and more in the future. In the future, the postman will bring not only letters, but also packages.
Cirillo wants to get post offices
There is also a change of direction in the post offices: the dismantling of the post offices had caused much criticism. No more branches will be dismantled from 2021. 800 must remain.
Instead of closing more and more unprofitable branches, Roberto Cirillo wants to make them available to others: authorities and companies. What exactly these services will offer remains unclear.
New division of communication services.
Swiss Post is also breaking new ground in digital offerings. Until now, these have been minor throughout the group. Swiss Post now shows that it is serious and wants to expand future digital areas. Swiss Post is therefore creating the new Communication Services division.
Swiss Post wants to be able to participate in the digitization business. The business area includes electronic health services, for example, secure communication in the health sector.
Costly investments
The Swiss Post conversion is not free, it will invest a total of around 3,000 million Swiss francs in the next four years, around double what it normally spends on investments. If necessary, you do not want to sell real estate that is not necessary for the business or apply for loans.
In general, Swiss Post shows with this expensive renovation that it takes the renewal of the traditional postal company seriously. It is also a clear sign that she is willing to redesign her future herself. So you can continue to provide basic services without subsidies in the future.
