On Sunday, numerous Peruvians took to the streets to celebrate Merino’s withdrawal. It was not initially clear how things will continue politically in the country. The situation seems tense.
The resigned interim president Merino called for peace and unity. Nothing justifies the death of Peruvians in legitimate protests. However, groups that wanted to sow chaos also participated. Incidents must be investigated.

More violent protests
Massive protests occurred immediately after the Merinos’ election, culminating in violence on Saturday. According to the Peruvian Ombudsman’s Office, the two dead were young men. According to state authorities, they were shot dead. A total of 102 people were injured, including several with gunshot wounds. 41 people are still missing. The country is in the middle of the corona pandemic

Neither Merino nor the president of Congress, Luis Valdez, commented on who could become the new president. Merinos held presidential elections in
